January 2010 Housing Element Adopted!
At
its January 19, 2010 public hearing, the City Council approved the
Housing Element and mitigated negative declaration of
environmental impact. The
adopted January 2010 Housing Element was certified by HCD in summer
2010.
Preparing the Housing Element involved
thousands of hours of work by citizens, advisory body members,
non-profit housing and civic organizations, and City staff. The City is
proud of the results and looks forward to implementing the Element's many programs intended to expand affordable
housing. The adopted Housing Element carries forward many of the
aggressive housing programs launched in 2004 and includes new programs
to expand housing for persons of all income levels. The City’s track
record shows our housing programs are working, with almost 1,300
dwellings built, under construction or approved since January 2007. The
City will continue that aggressive commitment to housing construction
into the Elements 2010-2014 planning period.
